It doesn’t matter if you are an incoming 6th grader or a veteran 7th/8th grader, YOU can join the band or orchestra! Beginning Woodwind students learn flute or clarinet, with saxophone auditions after the first semester. Beginning Brass students focus on trumpet and trombone, with options to switch to baritone, French horn, or tuba later. Orchestra 1 teaches foundational skills for violin, viola, cello, or bass. New students to the program may also audition for intermediate or advanced orchestra which requires a two-octave scale, sight-reading, and a solo. Students interested in joining percussion need a signature from Mr. Weidner to participate in the course. You may call the school or email him at matthew.weidner@canyonsdistrict.org to set up an appointment.  Instrumental Music-Information

♦ Digital Literacy for 8th Graders

This course is a foundation to the digital world that provides a broad understanding of key applications, computing fundamentals, and living online. Students will have opportunities to use technology and develop skills that promote creativity, critical thinking, productivity, and collaboration in the classroom and day-to-day life. This course is aligned with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) for Students, the K-12 Computer Science Standards, and industry standards for Digital Literacy Certification. The alignment of these national and international benchmarks will ensure that students complete this course as a prerequisite to transition successfully to the 9-12th grade digital studies courses.
In high school, there are four courses that fulfil the graduation requirement of Digital Studies. CCHS and Alta offer Digital Business Applications, Exploring Computer Science, Computer Programming and CSIS 1020 – Computer Essentials. At DPMS, the Digital Literacy class will give 8th graders “introductory experiences” and a better idea of which one of those four courses they might be interested in when they get to high school. Digital Literacy is a state requirement for 8th graders.
